Their romance was never confirmed to begin with, but fans always knew. A social media hint there, a huge iCloud leak there, but fans have been left wondering why V and Jennie reportedly broke up because their alleged relationship timeline goes back further than we thought.

It’s all conjecture of course, as BLINKS know better than anyone that YG Entertainment bans some artists from having romantic relationships while in the band—not uncommon in the world of K-pop. BLACKPINK confirmed this in an interview on JYP’sParty Peoplein 2017, where the band also revealed that they can’t smoke, drink, go to clubs or get tattoos or plastic surgery. However, Jennie did note that there’s an exception to the ban, which is that any rule can be broken as long as YG Entertainment’s former CEO Yang Hyun-Suk gives his permission.

Jennie, however, is the only member of BLACKPINK to have a confirmed relationship while in the band.There were even rumors in 2019 thatHarry Styles and Jenniehad a romance after they followed each other on Instagram and Harry attended BLACKPINK’s concert in Los Angeles. Those rumors have since fizzled out, and fans have claimed that Harry and BLACKPINK are simply friends. “Since the first day I entered YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk sajangnim told me to always be careful of boys,” Jennie said in 2016.

Despite this, BLINKS and The ARMY were convinced Jennie and V were dating, going back to early signs in December 2021. Now though, it appears things have ended. So why did V and Jennie reportedly break up? Here’s everything we know.

Why did V and Jennie reportedly break up?
The reason why V and Jennie reportedly broke up is because of his upcoming enlistment-which makes sense because in South Korea, every able-bodied man must enlist for military service by the age of 30 and serve for 18 to 21 months and that’s a long time to wait around. It’s akin to young US couples who break up when they get into different colleges.
On December 5, 2023, Big Hit Music released an official statement giving an update on the four member’smilitary enlistment. The label explained, “RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook will fulfill their required time with the military by enlisting in the army. RM and V will be enlisting according to their respective procedures, while Jimin and Jung Kook are scheduled to enlist together. Please note that there will be no official event on the day of their entry.”
The thing is, YG Entertainment nor Big Hit Music ever confirmed the relationship was even a thing, so of course they haven’t commented on the truthfulness of the breakup. But BLINKs have receipts. According to one Redditor, the timeline goes as follows: On December 6, 2021, V followed Jennie on Instagram. In on May 22, 2022, two allegedly visited Jeju Island together.
Then, on August 24, 2022, Jennie’s iCloud was hacked and the contents were leaked to show photos of Jennie and a man (who everyone concluded was V) being affectionate toward each other. On May 17, 2023, Jennie and V were photographed in France holding hands, and finally, in July 2023, she posted a series of IG pics, wearing an outfit that looked identical to the one she had on during her rumored Paris date with the caption “Few weeks back”, which led countless netizens to conclude that she was confirming the rumors.

The rapper and singer dated EXO’s Kai from October 2018 to January 2019. SM Entertainment, EXO’s management company, confirmed the couple’s relationship in December 2018 after the two werephotographed on a datetogether. (Fans started to speculate about their relationship in October 2018 after Kai and Jennie both posted romantic photos in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris around the same time.) However, by January 2019, the romance was over.
SM Entertainment confirmed toward the end of the month that the two were no longer dating. “It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways,” the company said in a statement. As for why they broke up, a source told Naver at the time that the twosplit because of their schedules. The insider claimed that Kai and Jennie wanted to focus on their careers but they ended their relationship as friends.

In February 2021, Dispatch, a South Korean media outlet, reported that Jennie and BIGBANG’s G-Dragon had been dating for a year. The two previously collaborated on his 2013 song “BLACK.” According to Dispatch, G-Dragon had a personal parking lot and a private elevator at his penthouse, which Jennie would use to visit him in secret. The outlet reported that Jennie would often go to G-Dragon’s house after her daily schedule for BLACKPINK. According to Dispatch, YG Entertainment knew of Jennie and G-Dragon’s relationship. The outlet also reported that Jennie’s manager, as well as G-Dragon’s manager, would often drive her to and from his house.
Dispatch first saw Jennie leaving G-Dragon’s house on January 31, 2021, the day of BLACKPINK’s online concert, “The Show.” The outlet reported that they saw Jennie leaving G-Dragon’s house that morning to head to the concert venue. G-Dragon’s car was also seen at the venue, according to Dispatch. “Quite a lot of people at YG have noticed their relationship,” a source told Dispatch. “Jennie’s mother is also aware of her relationship with G-Dragon. She’s thankful that he takes special care of her.”
In response to the rumors, YG Entertainment released this statement: “We can not confirm anything about our artists’ personal lives. We ask for your understanding.”

Rumors began buzzing that V was dating a BTS ARMY member named Hi. It didn’t help that he began using the phrase, “Hi Nuna” on Instagram. Fans also became convinced that V was wearing a ring that Hi had purchased for him. He did once confess that: “I have never been in a serious relationship. Actually, I couldn’t refuse a confession. I think that’s the reason why I have never been in a relationship for more than 20 days.”
