How to read ovulation test equate? ›

If the test line is as dark as or darker than the control line, this means that the LH levels in your body are higher than usual and you're probably ovulating or about to begin ovulating. If the test line is lighter in color or faint, this means that your LH levels are too low and you haven't begun ovulating yet.

You can test any time of day, but it should be at about the same time each day. It is important that you have not urinated for at least 4 hours before testing, and you should avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.

Morning is generally the best time of day to take an ovulation test, although you can take it at any time. For best results we recommend testing on the second morning urine, which for most people is between 10am and 12am.

And just remember, ovulation tests should never be used as a form of birth control. While they can be up to 99% accurate, they can also give false positive results, so it's best to use another form of contraception if you want to avoid getting pregnant.

Some say the standard LH range is 5 to 25 IU/L for women before menopause. Some people have naturally elevated LH and some have multiple surges throughout their cycle. One study shows that a median LH surge before ovulation was about 46 IU/L, but a normal surge level could be as high as 101 or as low as 6.5.

If the results line is as dark or darker than the control line, this is an indicator that your LH levels are elevated. If the result line is faint in color or lighter than the control line, this indicates that LH was detected, but is not high enough to be considered surging.

It doesn't really matter what time of the day you test, but it's best to pick a time of day that works for you and be consistent (10). Don't drink too much water before testing. This can dilute your urine and affect the results. Avoid urination for at least four hours before testing for the most accurate results (10).

The best time of day to take your ovulation test is between 12pm and 8am when you are most likely to experience your LH surge. Limit fluid intake and try not to use the restroom for 2 hours before using the test to increase LH urine concentration.

If you get a negative LH test, this doesn't mean that you're not fertile, or that ovulation won't occur. It only means that no LH surge was detected at the time you tested, so you can keep testing.

But in some women ovulation may not occur and LH surge may be because of conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), pituitary disorder, or perimenopause. Ovulation tests are more than 95% accurate, but can sometimes give false-positive results.

Why high fertility but no peak? ›

Occasionally some women have an LH surge that is too low for the test to detect, or they do not ovulate during a cycle and in this case they may see lots of High Fertility days but no Peak Fertility. This is not unusual and may happen in approximately 8% of cycles.

If the test line (T) is as dark or darker than the control line (C), you have a positive test, and you'll likely ovulate within approximately the next 36 hours. If you want to get pregnant this month, now is the time to have vagin*l sexual intercourse.

One faint line: If the faint line that appears is the control line and the test line is absent, your test has not detected an LH surge and you are not ovulating.
